Iran's MoU Enters Crisis, Mediation Continues
The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that mediation efforts to defuse tensions with the United States are ongoing. Countries such as Qatar, Oman, and Pakistan are said to be acting as mediators to keep diplomatic channels open.
However, Iran emphasized that it will not fulfill its commitments in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) as long as the United States is deemed to have failed to fulfill its obligations. Tehran accuses Washington of repeatedly violating the terms of the agreement.
A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that it was not the one violating the MoU. According to Iran, it is the United States that has continued to violate the agreement, bringing the agreement into crisis.
Iran also stated that it is working to reach a joint mechanism with Oman regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz. However, Tehran accuses the United States of obstructing the process amidst rising tensions and competing claims regarding the status of the strategic shipping lane.
This news sends mixed signals to the market. On the one hand, ongoing mediation could ease fears of a major war. However, Iran's postponement of its commitment to the MoU indicates that the risk of conflict has not completely disappeared, potentially causing volatile oil, gold, and US dollar prices. (arl)
