US Lowers Tariffs on Japanese Cars on September 16
The United States will begin lowering tariffs on Japanese cars and auto parts on September 16. This information was announced by Japanese tariff negotiator Ryosei Akazawa in a post on the platform X on Tuesday.
Akazawa stated that the decision was outlined in an official notice in the US Federal Register published on September 9. The document formalized President Donald Trump's executive order as part of the bilateral trade agreement between the two countries.
The 15% tariff reduction on Japanese cars follows up on the trade agreement reached by the US and Japan last July. This step is considered important to provide certainty to automotive industry players in both countries.
With this decision, Japanese automotive products entering the US market will be more competitive. The policy is also expected to strengthen trade relations between Washington and Tokyo while encouraging growth in the global automotive sector.
