S&P 500 Breaks New Record After Christmas Holiday
The S&P 500 index hit a new high on Friday, posting a weekly gain of more than 1%, amid trading influenced by the return of traders after the Christmas holiday. Although the market closed down 0.03%, the index briefly reached 6,945.77, extending its positive record. The Nasdaq Composite and Dow Jones Industrial Average also recorded gains of more than 1% for the week.
Analysts believe the market movement was driven by the financial and industrial sectors, which played a larger role than the technology sector, providing optimism ahead of 2026. Meanwhile, investors await the Santa Claus rally period, which typically occurs between the last five days of the year and the first two days of the new year, with the S&P 500 averaging a 1.3% gain during that period.
