Trump Slams UN: Attacks Migration and Green Energy
US President Donald Trump once again made waves at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday (September 23rd). In his nearly hour-long speech, Trump criticized the UN's key issues: global migration and climate change. He accused green energy policies and immigration flows of pushing European countries "to the brink of collapse." He even said that without swift action, "your countries are going to hell."
Trump emphasized that countries must prioritize their own interests over following the global agenda. He attacked climate science, calling global warming "the biggest hoax of all time" and suggesting that the carbon footprint is merely a ruse by those with "evil intentions." This view contrasts with the UN's long-standing commitment to reducing emissions and providing protection to refugees.
Trump's speech received mixed reactions. Unlike in 2018, when the audience laughed at his claims of accomplishment, this time the assembly was largely silent. Several European leaders were named as targets of Trump's sharp criticism, while several Middle Eastern leaders in attendance highlighted the Gaza conflict and urged a ceasefire.
In addition to attacking the UN, Trump also claimed to have resolved seven international conflicts, although some were considered exaggerated. He called Russia a "paper tiger" and encouraged Ukraine to retake its territory. At the end of his speech, Trump continued to assert that the UN has "tremendous potential," but has so far produced only "empty words" without concrete action.
