Nikkei Rises Slightly, Awaits Nvidia
The Nikkei 225 rose 0.3% to 42,520, while the Topix edged down 0.07% to 3,070 on Wednesday. Japanese stocks performed mixed as investors awaited Nvidia's earnings report, which is expected to provide fresh signals about the resilience of the artificial intelligence (AI) trade.
Sentiment was also weighed down by political uncertainty following US President Donald Trump's unprecedented move to remove Fed Chair Lisa Cook, which rekindled concerns about the US central bank's independence. This has made market participants more cautious about riskier assets.
Domestically, attention is focused on the release of industrial production, retail sales, and consumer confidence later this week. On the stock exchange, Advantest (+4.5%), Disco (+2.7%), and Asteria Corp (+19.3%) led the gains, while Sanrio (-3.4%), Kawasaki Heavy (-2.2%), and Nintendo (-1.1%) weakened. (ayu)
