Japan stocks lower at close of trade; Nikkei 225 down 1.25%
Japan stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Transport and Communication sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.25%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Otsuka Holdings Ltd (TYO:4578), which rose 6.82% or 469.00 points to trade at 7,350.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Kyowa Kirin Co Ltd (TYO:4151) added 4.16% or 94.00 points to end at 2,353.50 and Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (TYO:5301) was up 3.70% or 37.00 points to 1,037.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Tokyo Electron Ltd. (TYO:8035), which fell 4.76% or 1,150.00 points to trade at 23,000.00 at the close. Lasertec Corp (TYO:6920) declined 4.35% or 665.00 points to end at 14,605.00 and Sony Corp (TYO:6758) was down 4.03% or 160.00 points to 3,810.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2123 to 1472 and 266 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (TYO:5301) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.70% or 37.00 to 1,037.00.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.82% to 23.39.
Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.38% or 0.23 to $60.71 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.39% or 0.25 to hit $63.10 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.58% or 19.36 to trade at $3,324.54 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.27% to 143.84, while EUR/JPY fell 0.49% to 163.21.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 99.38.
