Nikkei Down 0.3%, Boosted by Property Shares
Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average fell 0.3% to 39,342.76 in early trade as heavy equipment makers and trading houses fell, despite some gains in electronics stocks. The broader Topix index rose 0.2% to 2,770.04.
IHI fell 2.2% and Itochu dropped 1.7% while Hitachi rose 3.0% and Sony Group gained 7.8%. USD/JPY was at 152.67, down from 154.02 at the close of the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Thursday. Investors are watching domestic earnings and U.S. trade policy. Eneos Holdings and Asahi Group Holdings are due to release their quarterly results later in the day.
