Hang Seng Rises 0.2%, HKEX Leads Gains
The Hang Seng Index ended a four-day losing streak by rising 0.2% to 25,165.94 in Hong Kong trading, after falling 0.2% in the previous session. So far this month, the index has gained 1.6% and over the past 52 weeks has gained 44%, compared to +14% for the MSCI AC Asia Pacific Index over the same period.
Constituent-wise, Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing (HKEX) was the largest contributor to gains with a +1.7% gain, while Sunny Optical led the daily gainers with a +9.7% surge. Market-wide, 45 of 85 stocks rose and 33 fell; two of four sectors advanced, led by financials.
In terms of levels, the Hang Seng is now 2.3% below its 52-week peak (August 14, 2025) and 48.3% above its September 11, 2024, low. The index has remained -1.7% over the past five days, but +1.4% over the 30-day period. Its 30-day volatility has decreased to 15.33% from 15.38%, approaching the monthly average of 15.31%.
Valuation-wise, the Hang Seng is trading at a P/E of 11.9x trailing and 11.5x forward, with a dividend yield of 3.1% (last 12 months). The total market capitalization of its members is approximately HK$29.6 trillion, indicating that investor appetite remains open amidst today's financial sector leadership. (ayu)
