Hang Seng Weakens to Lowest Level Since July
The Hong Kong stock market weakened again in today's trading. The Hang Seng Index fell 1.1%, or 265.52 points, to 24,507.81. This was its lowest closing level since July 17, marking the fourth consecutive day of declines for the main index.
The sharpest declines came from technology and energy stocks. Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings was the biggest contributor to the decline, falling 2.7%. Meanwhile, China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (Sinopec) suffered the deepest decline, plummeting 5.9%.
Of the 85 stocks on the Hang Seng Index, 72 declined and only 13 rose. All sectors were in the red, with the financial sector being the hardest hit today. This decline reflects investor concerns about economic uncertainty and ongoing global pressures. (ayu)
