Hong Kong Market Rallies; Hang Seng Climbs to 25,692
Hong Kong's stock market posted strong gains during Wednesday's trading session. The Hang Seng Index rose 1.5%—or approximately 385 points—to reach the 25,692 level, marking an eight-week high.
The rally was driven by technology stocks, which resumed their upward momentum. Investor sentiment improved as concerns regarding the valuations of artificial intelligence (AI) companies began to subside, prompting renewed buying interest in the technology sector.
The market also received a boost from news regarding Shein's planned IPO in Hong Kong. The fast-fashion giant is reportedly targeting a valuation of between US$40 billion and US$50 billion, a move that has bolstered investor confidence in the outlook for Hong Kong's capital markets.
Nevertheless, investors remain cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decision and the release of earnings reports from major US technology companies. Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to keep oil prices elevated, raising fresh concerns about inflation and the future trajectory of interest rates.
In terms of market impact, the Hang Seng's rise indicates solid buying interest in Hong Kong tech stocks, particularly as AI valuations begin to look more attractive. However, volatility remains a possibility should the Fed signal a hawkish stance or if oil prices continue to climb. Stocks contributing to the gains included Xiaomi (+6.6%), Li Auto (+10.1%), Tencent (+1.6%), Z.AI Co. (+1.2%), and Meituan (+2.0%). (asd)
