US Stocks Still Cautious
Both the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq edged up 0.1% on Tuesday while the Dow Jones swung around the flatline, with traders awaiting any progress on trade talks between the US and China which have entered a second day. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said talks are going well and are expected to go all day Tuesday.
The energy sector was by far the top performer, followed by health and real estate while financials underperformed. Megacaps were mixed, with Nvidia (-0.4%) and Microsoft (-0.3%) trading in the red while Apple (0.3%), Meta (0.9%), Alphabet (0.5%) and Tesla (1.1%) booked gains. Amazon shares were little changed. Meanwhile, stocks of Moderna were down more than 2% while Pfizer rebounded (0.4%) after US health secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. fired all vaccine policy advisors to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention late Monday.
