Wall Street Mixed Ahead of Nvidia's Earning
US equities finished mixed on Wednesday as investors awaited Nvidia's pivotal earnings report, expected to influence the AI-driven rally and broader market sentiment.
The S&P 500 closed mostly flat, the Nasdaq lost 0.1%, while the Dow Jones added 139 points. Nvidia, a cornerstone of the AI trade, fell 0.7% ahead of its highly anticipated earnings report after the closing bell. Retail stocks came under pressure as Target reported its largest earnings miss in two years, slashed its guidance citing weakening discretionary spending and rising costs, and saw its shares plunge 22%.
Dollar Tree (-2.6%), Dollar General (-4.2%), Five Below (-1.7%) and Home Depot (-1.6%) closed in the red. Elsewhere, rising geopolitical tensions between Russia and Ukraine added to market jitters, following Ukrainian missile strikes. Traders are watching Trump’s picks for key roles, including Kevin Warsh or Marc Rowan for Treasury secretary and Howard Lutnick for Commerce, a crucial position for trade policy.
