S&P 500 Eyes Longest Weekly Winning Run in 2024
A rally in some of the world’s largest technology companies lifted stocks, with the market heading toward its longest weekly winning run in 2024.
The S&P 500 hovered near all-time highs, while set for its sixth consecutive week of gains. Netflix Inc. jumped 9% after posting another strong quarter. American Express Co. sank 5% after saying write offs increased while expenses also rose, even as it again lifted its earnings guidance for the full year. SLB, the world’s biggest oilfield services provider, slipped 2% after warned that spending growth by oil explorers has waned in the past few months.
The S&P 500 rose 0.1%. The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.5%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.4%. The yield on 10-year Treasuries declined three basis points to 4.07%.
