Dollar Declines, Yen Advances Before Ueda Speech
A dollar index slipped following a brief rally on Wednesday as traders watched developments in the Ukraine and awaited more US data to gauge strength in the world’s largest economy. The yen rose.
The Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index fell 0.1%, slipping four of its last five sessions.
Treasury yields edged lower ahead of the release of US jobs data and as investors prepared for President-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for the Treasury secretary.
The yen advanced amid elevated geopolitical tensions around Russia’s war against Ukraine, and the risk of intervention by authorities.
Traders will now monitor Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda’s speech later Thursday.
USD/JPY declined 0.3% to 154.99. AUD/USD rose 0.2% to 0.6521. EUR/USD gained 0.1% to 1.0551. GBP/USD was little changed at 1.2656.
