Hegseth: Iran Operation Without a Time Limit?
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth emphasized that Washington will not set a time limit for its military operation against Iran. In a press conference at the Pentagon on Monday (March 2), Hegseth stated that the US's primary concern is Iran's long-range strike capability, which could threaten tactical operations centers and result in US casualties.
Hegseth emphasized that this operation will not be completed overnight. He stated that the current battlefield is vast and the situation is constantly evolving, requiring time to understand the dynamics on the ground and ensure each step is on target.
He also stated that time is needed to conduct a battle damage assessment. At the same time, Hegseth revealed that Iranian weapons had hit a tactical operations center, resulting in US casualties.
However, Hegseth emphasized that no US troops are currently in Iranian territory. He added that the US has not ruled out any options in this conflict and emphasized that its focus is on "fighting to win."
Regarding the duration, Hegseth said the final decision remains with President Donald Trump. Trump reportedly has the flexibility to determine the timeline or direction of operations, depending on evolving situations and desired objectives.
In his closing statement, Hegseth emphasized that the US will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with its allies, indicating that security coordination and regional support will be a key part of US strategy going forward.
