US PCE Prices Rise as Expected
The US personal consumption expenditures price index increased by 0.3% month-over-month in December 2024, the highest gain in eight months, compared to 0.1% in November, and in line with expectations.
The core PCE index, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, rose by 0.2%, slightly higher than 0.1% in the previous month. On an annual basis, the headline PCE inflation rate edged up to 2.6% from 2.4%, marking the third consecutive monthly rise, while core PCE inflation is remained steady at 2.8%, both in line with forecasts.
