Not Just China! 150 Countries Trump's New Target?
President Trump said he plans to write letters to many of the countries imposing unilateral, across-the-board tariffs, which he said could reach 10% or 15%.
"We're going to send payment notices to over 150 countries" detailing the tariffs, Trump told reporters Wednesday.
"It's going to be the same for everyone, for that group," the president said during a White House meeting with Bahrain's Crown Prince, Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
"They're not big countries, and they don't do a lot of business. Unlike countries we've had deals with, like China, like Japan," he said, adding: "We're very close to a deal with India where they're going to open up."
In an interview with Real America's Voice aired Wednesday night, Trump said the tariffs would be "probably 10% or 15%, we haven't decided yet."
Goods from most countries currently face a base tariff of 10%. Last week, Trump floated the idea of across-the-board tariffs of 15% to 20%.
Trump has sent about two dozen letters to each of his trading partners, including the European Union, Japan, and South Korea, setting out the tariffs that will take effect August 1.
