Trump Confident of Iran Deal Next Week!
US President Donald Trump said he believes negotiations with Iran to extend the ceasefire and reopen the Strait of Hormuz could be reached "within the next week," according to an ABC News report on Monday. Trump expressed optimism while acknowledging that details remain unfinished and need to be finalized in further discussions.
Trump's comments came after he called for intervention to de-escalate the escalation between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Trump said he called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and asked Israel to cancel a major attack on Beirut, and said Israeli forces were being "turned back." However, Netanyahu offered a different perspective, insisting that Israeli operations against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon would continue.
On the ground, claims of a "de-escalation" have not been fully realized. Hezbollah reportedly claimed several attacks on Israeli targets in southern Lebanon on Monday night, hours after Trump stated the group had agreed that "all fire would cease." Israel, meanwhile, said it had intercepted two projectiles fired from Lebanon toward Israeli territory.
For the markets, the underlying message is that the threat of execution remains high. Although Trump has set expectations for a potential breach next week, including the opening of Hormuz, the differing Israeli-US narratives and ongoing military activity keep the diplomatic path fragile and highly headline-driven.
