The Nikkei index fell 0.8% to 47,885.32 in early trading, tracking Wall Street's decline overnight. The main market theme is risk-off, Commerzbank Research analysts said in their research. They added that investors were nervous after two regional US banks disclosed problem loans, fueling concerns about broader credit stress in the US economy.
Among the weakest stocks on the Japanese benchmark index: Disco Corp. fell 3.2%, Chugai Pharmaceutical fell 3.05%, and Screen Holdings fell 3.1%. USD/JPY was at 150.18, compared to 150.44 at the close of trading Thursday in New York. (asd)
