Nikkei Falls 1.0%, Tracking Wall Street's Losses
The Nikkei Stock Average falls 1.0% to 36938.79, tracking Wall Street's losses overnight. Investors are closely watching the budget talks in Washington, IG's Chris Beauchamp says in an email. These talks take place in a "market atmosphere that's now much less forgiving of Washington's propensity to spend, spend, spend without regard for the consequences," the chief market analyst adds. Losses on Japan's benchmark index are led by technology- and semiconductor-related stocks, with Fujikura dropping 3.9%, Advantest falling 3.0%, and Renesas Electronics losing 2.7%. USD/JPY is at 143.63, compared with 143.68 in late New York trading Wednesday.
