Japanese Stocks Rise At Close; Nikkei 225 Up 1.54%
Japanese stocks rose after the close on Tuesday (5/13), as gains in the Real Estate, Banking and Textile sectors helped stocks advance.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.54%.
The best performers on the Nikkei 225 were Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:5801), which rose 13.84% or 681.00 points to trade at 5,601.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Denka Co Ltd (TYO:4061) rose 9.84% or 191.00 points to close at 2,132.50 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211) gained 8.34% or 34.60 points to 449.60 at the close.
The worst performers on the session were Sharp Corp (TYO:6753), which fell 13.31% or 124.80 points to close at 812.60. Keio Corp. (TYO:9008) dropped 9.27% or 366.00 points to close at 3,581.00 and Fujikura Ltd. (TYO:5803) dropped 5.17% or 313.00 points to 5,743.00.
Gainers outnumbered decliners on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1,829 to 1,795, with 239 ending unchanged.
Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, fell 1.63% to 24.18, a fresh 1-month low.
Crude oil for June delivery rose 0.03% or 0.02 to settle at $61.97 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for July delivery fell 0.05% or 0.03 to settle at $64.93 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 1.13% or 36.59 to settle at $3,264.59 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY fell 0.36% to 147.92, while EUR/JPY fell 0.15% to settle at 164.35.(Newsmaker23)
