Japanese Stocks Rise At Close; Nikkei 225 Up 1.35%
Japanese stocks rose after the close on Thursday (4/17), as gains in the Real Estate, Banking and Textile sectors helped stocks advance.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 was up 1.35%.
The best performer on the Nikkei 225 was Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506), which rose 19.69% or 100.00 points to trade at 608.00 at the close. Meanwhile, CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751) rose 9.21% or 99.00 points to close at 1,173.50 and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (TYO:7012) gained 7.05% or 534.00 points to 8,104.00 at the close.
The worst performers on the session were Toho Co., Ltd. (TYO:9602), which fell 2.26% or 183.00 points to trade at 7,914.00 at the close. Nitori Holdings Co Ltd (TYO:9843) fell 1.78% or 305.00 points to close at 16,875.00 and Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (TYO:7912) dropped 1.58% or 31.00 points to 1,933.50.
Advancing issues outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2,578 to 1,036 and 214 ended unchanged.
Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, fell 1.10% to 27.84.
Crude oil for May delivery rose 0.77% or 0.48 to settle at $62.95 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for June delivery rose 0.59% or 0.39 to settle at $66.24 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.12% or 3.86 to trade at $3,342.54 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY rose 0.58% to 142.74, while EUR/JPY gained 0.27% to 162.10.
