Nikkei Rises 0.1%, Led by Financial Stocks -- Market Talk
Japanese stocks ended higher as financial shares gained thanks to rising government bond yields. Rakuten Bank was up 5.6% and Concordia Financial Group added 5.9%.
Among individual movers, Mitsubishi Electric climbed 6.3% after its plan to raise defense-business revenue and profit margin. The Nikkei Stock Average rose 0.1% to 36819.09.
The 10-year Japanese government bond yield was up 1.5 basis points to 1.520%. Investors are focusing on U.S. trade and foreign policies. USD/JPY was at 148.10, compared with 147.77 as of Tuesday 5 p.m. Eastern time.
