Japanese Stock Gains as Traders Assess Nvidia Results
Japan’s equities climbed as the market digested Nvidia’s quarterly numbers, which were seen as mildly supportive, and new details on tariffs from US President Donald Trump.
Topix Index rose 0.7% to 2,736.25 as of market close in Tokyo
Nikkei advanced 0.3% to 38,256.17
Toyota Motor contributed the most to the Topix’s gain, increasing 2.2%. Out of 1,693 stocks in the index, 1,303 rose and 356 fell, while 34 were unchanged.
“Nvidia’s results weren’t that good, but they weren’t bad, and so there’s relief in that sense,” says Chihiro Ota, a senior strategist at SMBC Nikko. “It seems more like investors are realizing that shares are reasonable, as the market has been weak recently, and so they’re gradually starting to buy.”
