European Stocks Edge Cautiously Higher
Both the STOXX 50 and the STOXX 600 rose 0.3% on Friday, extending gains from the previous session, as traders remained cautiously optimistic about the US-UK trade deal and looked ahead to US-China trade negotiations over the weekend. Oil and gas, autos, and healthcare were the best-performing sectors, while insurance lagged behind. Meanwhile, investors also monitored corporate earnings.
Shares of Commerzbank edged up just 0.3%, despite the lender reporting a better-than-expected net profit in Q1. Mediobanca shares gained 1.5% following an earnings beat. For the week, both benchmark indexes saw only modest moves, with the STOXX 50 up 0.3% and the STOXX 600 slipping 0.1%.
