European Stocks Fall amid Auto Tariffs
European stocks dropped on Wednesday, with the Stoxx 50 down 1.4% and the Stoxx 600 losing 0.7%, as concerns over potential US auto tariffs weighed on markets.
The autos sector led declines, falling around 2.5%, after reports that Trump was preparing to announce an update on trade measures, possibly including tariffs on vehicle imports.
The auto industry, which depends on North American trade, has faced ongoing uncertainty, especially after Trump granted a temporary tariff exemption in March. Meanwhile, UK markets reacted to lower-than-expected inflation data and the spring budget update.
