BOJ Interest Rate Decision
BOJ Raises Benchmark Interest Rate to Highest Level Since 1995
The Bank of Japan (BOJ) raised its benchmark interest rate to its highest level since 1995, as widely expected by market participants.
Governor Kazuo Ueda and his board of directors raised the overnight call rate to 0.75% after their two-day meeting, according to the central bank's policy statement on Friday. All 50 economists surveyed by Bloomberg had predicted the BOJ would raise borrowing costs—the first time any analyst had forecast a hike since Ueda's tenure began. (asd)
