UK Economy Grows Slightly, Services Sector Stagnant
The UK economy grew by 0.1% in August 2025, in line with market expectations, after a downwardly revised 0.1% growth in July. This growth was largely driven by a 0.4% increase in the production sector, particularly in the manufacturing industry, which rose 0.7%. The energy and water treatment sectors also recorded small increases. However, this growth was restrained by a sharp 2.3% decline in the mining and quarrying sector.
Meanwhile, the services sector—a major contributor to the UK economy—showed no growth for the second consecutive month. Increases in the administration and healthcare sectors were offset by declines in trade, transportation, and entertainment. The construction sector also weakened, declining 0.3%, primarily due to a 1.5% decline in repair and maintenance activity. This data reflects a still-fragile economic recovery amid global uncertainty. (asd)
