US President Donald Trump says will speak with Putin to discuss ending Ukraine war

US President Donald Trump said he would talk to Russia's Vladimir Putin early Tuesday about ending the Ukraine war, with territorial concessions by Kyiv and control of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant likely to feature prominently in the talks, per Reuters.

According to Semafor, the Trump administration is considering recognizing Ukraine’s Crimea egion as Russian territory as part of any future agreement to end the way.

“Tomorrow morning I will be speaking to President Putin concerning the War in Ukraine. Many elements of a Final Agreement have been agreed to, but much remains. Thousands of young soldiers, and others, are being killed. Each week brings 2,500 soldier deaths, from both sides, and it must end NOW. I look very much forward to the call with President Putin,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Separately, the Houthis announced on Sunday that they launched an attack comprising 18 ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones, targeting the USS Harry S Truman aircraft carrier and its accompanying warships in the northern Red Sea. Houthi military spokesman said that the attack was in reaction to US airstrikes authorized by Trump against rebel-controlled areas in Yemen, including the capital Sanaa and the province of Saada, which borders Saudi Arabia.

US officials called the strikes as successful, targeting Houthi leadership and military infrastructure. The US defended the strikes as necessary to protect American interests and restore freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.
