Finally! Longest US Shutdown Ready to End, House to Decide Government Fate This Wednesday
The United States Senate on Monday (November 10) finally approved a compromise bill to end the longest government shutdown in the country's history. By a 60-40 vote, the bill would restore funding to federal agencies that have been shut down since October 1.
The bill now goes to the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. House Speaker Mike Johnson stated that they plan to hold a vote on it on Wednesday (November 12, 2025) so President Donald Trump can quickly sign it into law.
The deal extends government funding until January 30, 2026, and delays Trump's planned federal job cuts until early next year. However, some Democrats still oppose the bill because it does not guarantee an extension of health insurance subsidies under the Affordable Care Act.
While the political debate continues, news of this progress has boosted the US stock market, as investors hope for a return to fiscal stability after more than a month of economic uncertainty.
