US Core Inflation Rate Unexpectedly Eases
The annual core consumer price inflation rate in the United States, which excludes items such as food and energy, eased to 3.2% after having remained at 3.3% in the three previous months, slightly under market expectations of 3.3%.
Prices for services excluding energy slowed to 4.4% from 4.6% in the previous month, driven by a softer increase in shelter (4.6% vs 4.7% in November), although costs accelerated for transportation services (7.3% vs 7.1%). From the previous month, core consumer prices rose by 0.2%, slowing from the 0.3% increase in November.
