Trump Pressures Putin With New 10-Day Truce Deadline
US President Donald Trump has shortened the deadline for Russian President Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine, reducing it to just 10–12 days. Speaking in Scotland alongside UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump said he would announce the new timeline soon, expressing frustration with Putin for ignoring previous peace efforts.
Trump had originally set a 50-day deadline expiring on September 2, but Russia has intensified its attacks instead. Now, Trump is threatening secondary sanctions, which would impact countries like India and China that continue to import Russian oil, indirectly supporting Moscow’s war efforts.
The proposed measures could include tariffs of up to 100% or more on nations that trade with Russia. While the US is currently in trade talks with both India and China, Trump insists that buying Russian energy undermines global sanctions and helps fund the war.
Trump, who initially blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy for stalling peace, now seems increasingly impatient with Putin. Despite claiming a strong rapport with the Russian leader, Trump’s diplomatic efforts have yielded little progress, with Moscow refusing to compromise.
Meanwhile, NATO allies, including Germany, are stepping up efforts to support Ukraine, including advanced talks to deliver more Patriot missile systems. As Russian airstrikes continue to batter Ukrainian cities, Kyiv is pushing for stronger defense, even as peace negotiations remain elusive.
